HID was first released in March 1976 as a song on Mickey Hart's Diga Rhythm Band album release which Jerry played on.

Listen in Playin In The Band - during the jam about 14:00 - 14:30 minutes there is a distinct jam on the Happiness Is Drumming theme. Also worth listening to the whole show while you're at it.

I think the reason they didn't call it Fire On The Mountain maybe the song as it was was called Happiness Is Drumming, the song by Mickey Hart, must have been later that the words and music were put together to make it become Fire.

Thank you both for the education. I had no idea that the credits for FOTM were MH (music) / RH (lyrics). (Well, the second part isn't surprising. but the guitar riff is the distinguishing feature so I am surprised that Jerry didn't help write it.) Regardless, the version on the MH album is obviously one in the same as what became FOTM. Thanks for pointing out the riff during the PITB riff from earlier in the month. I have listened to that show many times and, at least based on the power of suggestion, I do hear a similar motif. So, thank you, Mickey. And it's surprising that it took almost 11 months for HID to morph into the backbone of the first Scarlet > Fire and one of our favorite 2nd set staples for almost 20 years thereafter.
